How to get sign ups to your mailing list
On June 3rd will be a month with Aweber. In that one month I created two mailing lists. I created one for this blog and I also created a list for my dad’s web site. I have a total of 47 people sign up to both lists. I think that is pretty good for a month. Here are the things that I have been trying to get people to sign up.
Give something to your readers
You want to give something to your readers this can be an e-book, free cash, a WordPress theme, etc. It has to be something that your readers want. I made two e-books for people that sign up to my mailing list. Some of my readers are in need of help with Bart PE. So created a how to guide on installing Bart PE and getting it to work with Ghost. I also created another e-book on how to setup a WordPress blog.
Make them think they are missing out on something
On my fathers blog I have it so that they should sign up so they will be the first ones to get updates to my fathers software. My father is in the Ham Radio niche and he writes software for the ham radio. People are really interested in when there is an update to the different software.
The forms that you create will help attract people to sign up to your list. You can create your own forms. You can use the default forms that Aweber gives you. You can create different hover boxes on when a new visitors comes to your website.
Your blog commentors can help also. If you get people commenting on your blog you can convert them to being subscribers to your list. There is a free WordPress plugin that will help you with this. The free plugin is called Aweber WordPress Plugin. You can also get a paid plugin called Action Comments
Backyard Patio Furniture
The summer is almost here and you know what everyone needs if they have the room is that they need to go look at patio sets at the local store. You want your friends over for a Barbeque. You and your guest will need a place to sit and eat your food. If I had a place of my own I would go and buy a nice looking patio set.
Band of Brothers is on this Memorial Day Weekend
I really love this series from HBO. When ever it is on the history channel I will turn it on and watch. It is something that you are drawn to. It is very real and a lot of things goes through your head when you watch it. I love history because it makes you think the why, how, what questions. If you like the series then you should buy the Band of Brothers on DVD. I think this is a perfect series to be on this Memorial Day Weekend. What does everyone else think?
What A Bad Hard Drive Sounds Like
This is what a bad hard drive sounds like. On Friday I got a call saying their computer shutdown to power outage and now it won’t come up. I was able to save some data off the computer but only by going into a linux live CD because windows wouldn’t see the drive. I used a USB to IDE Cables To Go adaptor to hook it up to my computer but the computer wouldn’t access it. I ended up buying a new hard drive that was $80. The computer was really hot to the touch and also the hard drive was very hot on Friday. I also ended up buying an 80 MM fan to put in the case. They don’t make hard drives like they use to.

Have you ever used freecycle.org?
If you have unwanted junk at your house then free cycle is the place to get it out of your house. They have groups for all cities in the United States. You can view the groups on their web site. I remember they all being driven by yahoo groups. It looks like now you can view the groups and see what’s taken or wanted. I think this is a great way to get ride of unwanted items in your house. You can also take them to a place like the rescue mission or thrift store that can be tax write off.

It looks like Kris Allen won American Idol last night. It was jammed pack superstar appearance last night.

Favorite Local Bars
Let’s talk about the local bar that is in your area. I love going to my local bar. It is called the Beginning II. They have nice prices for liquor and beer. On Wednesdays they have backyard BBQ which is $10. You can’t beat that price because it is all you can eat and drink from 6 to 9. What is your favorite local bar in you area that you like to go? If you don’t like to go to a local bar what is your favorite night club?
How to do a blog broadcast in Aweber
I know this has been done before. It is very simple to do. It will probably take 5 seconds to create it. This is probably a must do if you own a blog.
You want to click on the list that you want to do a blog broadcast for. On the dashboard of Aweber you want to over over Messages and then click on Blog Broadcast. Then you want to click on the the green button that say Create New Blog Broadcast. Please look at the screenshot below.
When you click on the green button to creat the blog broadcast it will take you to another page. You want to first pick a template that you want and then click on the button that says load template this will activate all other fields so you can enter data.
You want to enter your RSS feed in the input box that says RSS Feed URL which mine is www.gregellison.net/feed. What I like to do is change the subject line. I left {!rss_channel_title} which will grabe the name of the Feed and then add Email Newsletter.
When I send you this message the subject will look like Greg Ellison Email Newsletter. So between the channel link and channel description I like to add something in their to personalize it. Mine says “Welcome to the Greg Ellison Email Newsletter. Here’s what has been going on at www.gregellison.net for the last couple of days. Your comments and suggestions are always welcomed. ” You also want to do that for the non html form. You want to send the broadcast immediately and pick how many posts do you want it to send off to your subscribers when it reaches a certain amount. Then you can review the blog broadcast or you can Save the Blog Broadcast. That is all there is. Hope you like this post.
Do you have an idea?
When you get an idea at work you should be writing it down. If you have a slow day you can write a whole post. When I have an idea I will open my Microsoft Word and just start writing if I am at work and its slow. You can also buy a small notebook or regular size notebook and jot your ideas down. I haven’t used the method of using a notebook to jot my ideas down. How does everyone else come up with ideas?
Ethan Zohn Official website is a WordPress Blog
I was looking at the official website of Ethan Zohn and he runs a self hosted WordPress blog. You know how I can tell because I went to the administrative login page of his website. I think that is very cool. You know that he must be getting a high volume of traffic to his site and WordPress can with stand anything. The design of his website is pretty good also. I am also sorry to hear that you have Hodgkin’s disease. Get well their Ethan.
