You have too many ads on your site!!!

too_many_ads

When I am reading a blog I will notice the ads on the website. Some sites have ok amount but other people have way too many. You are not a big named blog and you shouldn’t have an amount that a big blog should have. I agree that you should have ads on your blog if you want to but not a lot of them. I think I have an alright amount of ads for my blog. I have two 125 x 125 and two 468 x 60 banners. Some think I don’t even have any Google Adsense on this blog, but I do. How many banners ads do you guys have?

Your visitors might turn away from your site because of the ads. You can also destract your visitors from reading your post. The beginner bloggers will think I put more ads on I will make more money. This might be true that you will make a lot of money but I think this is the worst thinking ever. When you start to blog it should be learning the ropes of trying to get a blog to be successful. Trying to make money online should an after thought and not the primary focus of your blog. It should be third or 4th thing you should be thinking about. What do you all think about this? Do you think some websites have way to many ads on their website?

New bloggers should only focus on creating content and getting a grip of their market and some readership – then they can start looking into earning some cash.

Sometimes “less is more” when it comes to ads.

On my site, I have a header ad (468×60), plus two 125×125 below that. Then I have a skyscraper from adsense/adbrite and some 125×125 below that – in positions that doesn’t really interefere with the reading.

Sometimes I have a 250×250 (or something like that) inside the content too as they are usually the ones with most clicks.

I’m still *very much* learning though, so it’s likely I will remove some of them once I learn which pays and which does not.

too many ads will reduce the quality of your blog .. but i think this is all about how we manage the ads itself

Love the baby image Greg… makes me think I should have marketed my kids when they were born too ;)

Seriously… too many ads can be a distraction, but I have found that it is better to have your ads somewhat in place when you start your blog. Otherwise, you can give your loyal readers “Ad Shock” if you start adding them once your blog is doing well, and you could lose a lot of loyal readers. If you have them in place when you start your blog using some affiliate banners as “placeholders”, people know what they are going to get right from the start.

Doug good points about ad shock if you start putting them up when you get a lot of loyal readers. You should start with a few banners, but don’t go over board.

I remember someone putting logos on their head or naming their child after a company.

I also think too many ads will shoo visitors away. But yeah Doug got a point there. New blogs can start putting ads so they don’t surprise their regular readers aferwards.

    Hi Greg,

Love the baby picture. Adorable! :)

I also do not like all those ads. I get distracted, then disgusted, like, “why do they need 15 ads for one post?” Is it all about money? Which, OK, yes, for the most part. But still, I want to create a blog that people actually come back to because they love it– my blog is definitely not the place where I want to make money. Plus, it just seems cheap sometimes.

I’m a returning Adsense user and I think my ad placements will be crucial to how my readers will react to it especially because I don’t place ads within the post content for the past eight months.

So far since its 7-day inception, the traffic didn’t slow down and the clicks are consistent but I’m still observant.

yes it’s true, too many ads can ruin the blogs and the visitor feels that the main cause of the blog is to make money using the blog.Really that must be in the back of the mind but shouldn’t use it excessively.
