Blog Posting
I get on the shuttle for work think to myself I forgot to do something. I forgot to write a post for the blog. I should be writing something the night before but then I get doing other things then you can’t come up with anything in the morning.
You feel like crap because you didn’t write anything. You even try to get up early in the morning but it doesn’t work. You might also have writers block. What to do?
Blog was down for two days
All of my websites were down for two days. The web hosting company that I have said The server had a bad drive in RAID and after FSCK when they tried to rebuild the RAID it failed and it is not possible to recover data from it now.
They restored everything from March 1st backups. They are still restoring people. I just can’t believe how many people they have on one server. I only missed couple of comments but everything got restored fine. My other websites are fine also. It really sucks when the website is down for two days and you can’t do anything about it.
Neglecting the blog
I think I have been neglecting this blog. I need to come with some great content and not some weird shit. I need to brainstorm and come up with some post ideas in the next couple of days. So how has your blogs been doing this month?
I know I haven’t been responding to comments like I should. I think my problem has been my car. Not having a ride can get you down. You have to rely on someone to take you to work and back it is not fun. It will change hopefully I will get my car today or wednesday.
Make your feedburner feed search engine friendly
I am still seeing people with the default feedburner feed when they post comments on blogs with commentluv. They should be setting it up for them to show their own URL instead of feedburner. It is a very simple step to change the way you display your feed.
When I make a new feed for my blogs I do this. You want to go into your feed -> Analyze -> Configure Stats -> then uncheck Item link clicks. You don’t want Feddburner to track clicks and views on your feed URLs.
Comments that are rewritten from your posts
Yesterday I got a comment that was all rewritten from my post. I read somewhere that a blog owner was also getting this from their comments. That is why you need to really read the comments that come through your blog. You should be moderating your comments.
The comments came from my Blog Income Report for December 2009. If you can’t read the picture then here is what the comment said.
December was a great month and it seemed like it went by quick. I think December was the best month in traffic. The last few weeks I have been good amount of traffic for my Droid posts which is always good. Money wise it was good, but not like last month because of the ClickBank sale I got. I haven’t had one since which sucks. I need to work on it harder.
The spammer was My Fashion Jewelry. The spammers are really getting creative to make their comments look real. Have anymore people seen this?
Top posts for 2009 and Stats
In this post I am going to be talking about the top posts and the total stats for 2009. I was going through my Google Analytics and it was shocking to see the stats. I didn’t really know how many people visit in a given year but it is a lot.
Here are the Google Analytics screen shot showing the data. I can’t believe the amount of visitors and page views that the blog has had for one year.
I need to work on the bounce rate but if you have posts that are pointing to other websites then your bounce rate is going to be high. The average amount of time some one is on my blog is great but it can be longer. That is another thing I have to work at.
Here are the top 10 posts that brought in the most visitors to this blog.
1. The top post was a blog post about my friend’s laptop. The laptop is a dell inspiron 6000, and I did an OS recovery on it. The laptop had a huge virus, spyware, and malware on it. The best solution was to just reprep the laptop. If you ever need to know how to do it then you might want to check out http://www.gregellison.net/general/dell-inspiron-6000-os-recovery/
2. The second top post is the root page of the blog and that is http://www.gregellison.net. If you think about it most of your posts are on the fron page and most people will look at it first then go else where if they like the post.
3. The third top post is a guide that I did for work it is to setup Bart Pe and Ghost. If you want to read the guide then it is at http://www.gregellison.net/general/setup-bart-pe-and-ghost-how-to/.
4. The fourth top post is http://www.gregellison.net/general/jon-and-kate-plus-8-saga/. I know it is kind of weird to have a post about the Jon and Kate show but it was to see if Google Trends can bring in traffic and it can.
5. The fifth top post is http://www.gregellison.net/general/ever-wanted-see-inside-air-force-one-or-marine-one/. I saw the special on the national geographic and it was a great special so I talked about it.
6. The sixth spot goes to my about me page. I guess people is interested in me because they want to know more about the person behind this blog. If I want to know more about the blog owner then you look at the about page. If you want to read more about me then head over to the about us page
7. The seventh spot goes to my advertise page. I only had one person want to advertise with me, and I also bought the OIO Publisher plugin and spent the $35 for it. If you want to spend less money then you might want to give my blog a try. If you want to see the prices then head over to http://www.gregellison.net/advertise/.
8. The eigth post talks about the Active Directory Recovery fix when you went from IE 6 to IE 7. If you are having those problem then head over to Active Directory Recovery fix.
9. The ninth post is about can’t create file when opening attachments in microsoft outlook 2003 and can be found at .
10. The tenth one and probably the newest article is about the Motorola Droid Battery Life. I got the Droid and really love it. It has it problems like any other phone out there. The battery life is very good with the new firmware update. You should also just make sure that you turn off applications that you don’t use. Make your blog mobile phone accessible
In today’s world a lot of users have mobile devices. Just recently I installed a WordPress plugin that converted my blog so that mobile phones could access it. I think this is a very good plugin for being free. I saw this on Problogger.net when he announced that his blog is mobile accessible.
The plugin that I use is called WPTouch. It looks like Iphone theme but it works on all of mobile devices. When I went to my website with my Motorola Droid without WPTouch it would error out because of my Aweber popup sign up box. It also wouldn’t work when I was using an Ipod Touch visiting my website.
Here is what WPTouch looks like when someone goes to the main page of your blog.
This is what WPTouch looks like when someone clicks on a post.
If you want to be accessible to more people then I think this is a must thing for any blog. With WPTouch you can put in your Google publisher ID so you can show AdSense for Mobile Content. With mobile browsers this can open up another way for people to click on your banners on your site. With installing WPTouch I had $.21 ad click. I think it can be a great thing money wise. If you want to download WPTouch then Click Here. What do you think about this plugin?
Yes or No for Link Love Posts

I have done two with in 3 weeks of each other. I have done the blog income / recap post and the clickbank market place post. They do bring in a lot of comments and visitors. Do you like them or dislike them? Do you think they get used way to much?
I see a lot of them every week or sometimes every other day. I know a link love post brings you traffic and helps the other blogs. I would love someone to link to my post. Maybe I will change my tune and do a link love post every week or something. I don’t know what I will do. If I get a lot of comments saying yes I love them then I would definitly change my mind. Have a good TGIF and have a safe fun weekend.
How to Add a Plugin to WordPress
Here is a short video that I did on adding a plugin to your WordPress blog. This is for people that are new to WordPress and that have never added a plugin to your WordPress blog before.
Recap of what is new at GregEllison dot net
I have added TweetMeme Retweet Button plugin instead of Tweet This plugin. It looks a lot less crowded at the bottom of the posts. I just need people to retweet my posts. Do you guys put the buttons at the top or bottom? Also are people retweeting your posts?
I also changed the button for my aweber form on the right. I saw couple of different blogs change their buttons. You can find them at David Risely’s or Yaro Starak’s blog. If you hover over the button it changes between red and green. I think this might bring more attention to the aweber signup. What do you think about the button?
Those are the only new changes that I have done lately. What have you done to change your blog lately?
