Work Update and On Call next week

I will be on call next week so I will do a post about getting called in for work if it happens. On March 3rd I will be at the hospital for a year. I can’t believe how fast a year has flown by. It doesn’t seem like it has been a year. How I got to know everyone in the NES group was I did my internship at the hospital. I was there for 4 months. It was very good experience. I then was a contractor for Suny OCC IT department for a year and then a month at Carrols Corporation. Crouse Hospital had an opening for someone in the NES group and they thought of me. I interviewed and I got the job. How awesome was that.

Here is a picture of my manager, supervisor and myself at the end of my internship presentation. Jason and Randy you are famous now. You guys have made it on my blog.

Update to a application

I had to update a application yesterday. It took 2 hours to do. I don’t know about you but a application should not take two hours. I ended up having to do it twice. This time it took 4 hours. There was a bug in early release of the update so I had to rerun the update. It sucked, but I was able to log in after the 2nd update. I will end up calling the user and see if it works for them.

On Call and Work

II haven’t been called in for anything. It is mid week so I thought it would be good time to do an on call post and work post all bundled into one post. At work we are trying something new where the on call person is the triage person where they will field the calls where they will work on calls that can be done remotely or at the desk and prioritize the other tickets that can’t be done at the desk. This is the 2nd week of doing it. I think it is good because it gets you talking on the phone with the users, asking questions, really doing something different then just running tickets. What I mean by running tickets is picking the ticket out of the queue and then going to do the ticket. It is help desk for our group. In life you need experience talking on the phone and communicate with the end user face to face. Talking on the phone to the end user and communicating face to face is all ways good to have practice with. This is good experience for an IT person and I am glade we are doing it.

Work Update

I have to prep and install around 6 servers starting Thursday or Friday. I have to prep two servers asap because I prepped the wrong ones last week. They were for a different application. I have a meeting on Wednesday. I have around 4 radiology tickets that deal with coming in early or staying late because the radiologist don’t like to get off their computers for anything. If they put a ticket out and saying their computer doesn’t work they still won’t allow you to look at it. I think the dark room gets to them. It is just my thoughts. It is going to be a fun week. Any interesting things going on with your jobs?

On call post for this week

I have finished 9 mobile carts. I didn’t have any more keyboards. I also finished two mini computers. I have 11 more mobile carts to go. I hope they come in today so that I can get them down to the floor with out any problems. Yesterday when I brought the mini computers down we had to move computers around and then they wanted to move the computers again. I said no because engineering needs to come down and make a opening for the lcd monitor and then you can push the monitor to the back of the desk. I moved it once so I am not moving it again. I didn’t spec out your hardware either.

Work and On Call Post

I have been prepping laptops all week. We got all the carts, extended batteries, laptops, and mice. There might be a problem with all of the keyboards that we bought for this. They bought all PS/2 keyboards and not USB. I am still going to continue to prep laptops, and I think I can get 9 carts done. I also got the work order done to drill the tops so that the user can power on the laptop. There is still a lot left to do, but it will get done.

On Monday at work I walked out and there were 6 police cars, a transport prison van and a Crime scene van. Find out that a guy was with his sister didn’t like the service that she was getting. The ER staff could smell alcohol on his breath and called security. The security guard was talking to him and the guy pulled a gun and pointed it at him. The security guard swatted the gun away and another one put a hold on him. There are a lot of crazy people out in this world.

Work Updates

I will be on call on Monday so I will start doing the on call post hopefully. I only did one post about my on call from last time. I have to prep 16 laptops. It is not bad. We just got 20 mobile carts in yesterday. How is everyone doing at there job? Any new updates? Did I tell anyone I hate Palm PDA’s. The palm PDA’s that I am talking about are Palm Tungsten E2 Handheld. They are just garbage.

Watch your resumes when posting online

You should be watching your resumes that you post online. You don’t want to post too much information online because people can steal that information and use it to their advantage. Some of the online jobs postings are fake they are not real. You have probably posted online and got bunch of respones but they weren’t for a job that you sent your resume for. I just wanted to say watch what you post and be vigliant about the site.

Help your IT person

Yesterday I had to install a mobile cart, a computer, and a HP Printer in one of the surgery center recovery areas. I couldn’t believe they didn’t like the location of the printer so I had to move it about 5 different times. They finally brought a small desk for the printer. They bought this print for reason because you are going to do a high volume of printing. It wasn’t my choice I don’t make the decision. I get my orders to say install this. There was only one live jack that I could install the printer on.

I still need to go back over there and put a security lock on the mobile cart, and make so they can print through a web app to the printer.

Work Ramblings

With in two days we finished 15 mobile carts. The only things that are left is to drill hole on the top of the mobilecarts so that the users can turn on the laptop with a pencil or something that can fit in the hole. We have to drill holes on the mobilecarts because the tip on the extended battery is long instead of curve shape which is wierd because every other tip is curved. I finished up installing the temp loggers and recorders.
