nLite saves the day!!!

It really didn’t save the day but it helped me slipstream SP2 for Windows 2003 server because I had to build 3 servers last week. I have used this in the past and it worked wonderfully. It is very easy to use. You can slip stream the service pack 2 and then make a ISO image so you can burn to disk. The three servers were all dell servers. Dell wanted SP2 if you were going to install Windows 2003 and I only had SP1 on CD.

If you want to download nLite then Click Here.

You want to get your windows installation disk that you got from Microsoft. It needs to copy the installation files to your computer.

This screen shots shows what you can put in to your installation disk. What I have done is just do the service pack and made a bootable ISO image. You just click on the button what you want to do. I clicked on Service Pack and bootable ISO.

You just have to download the service pack executable from Microsoft’s website. You click on the select button and browse out to the SP executable that you download. It will put the service pack into the project that you are working on. Then once you are done putting the service pack into your project then click on Next.

This is showing how to make a bootable ISO image. I always put a new label on it. The default lable is WinLite. To make the ISO image you want to click on the button that says Make ISO. This will create the ISO image. Then when that is done you want to click on Next and your are finish with your project.

I would then fire up your CD burning software and burn your ISO image that you created. It is very simple to use. I have made two SP2 installation disks one for Windows 2003 Standard and Windows 2003 Enterprise. You can also do this with Windows XP. Have fun and I hope you enjoyed this.

Greg, is it a tool to make your own iso’s or to delete unneeded components from windows ? I have heard some good things about it, but never tried.

You can add service packs, hotfixes, and drivers. You can also remove components from the install. You can setup the install to be unattended like it will add your product key. You can create an ISO and then use your cd burning software to create the bootable CD. It is very good utility for the systems administrator, and computer technician. Greg Ellison
