Amazon Associates Can Share Products on Twitter

Amazon now has a share on Twitter button on the site stripe when you visit a amazon page you will find it at the top of the page. When you click on the Twitter button it will generate a message that will include a shortened URL that already includes your Associates ID. You’ll have the option to edit this message or simply hit the ‘Update’ button to post to your Twitter account.

I think this is cool because it is another method to monetize your twitter account. I just tried this on IE 7 and I got a error trying to go to the site for Share on Twitter, but it worked in Mozilla.

This is the message that I tweeted out to my followers “Just saw this on Amazon: ‘Kindle Wireless Reading Device (6″ Display, U.S. & Internationa…’ by Amazon.com for $259.00 http://bit.ly/3U8XIe”.

What do you guys think about this? I think it is pretty cool and hopefully this will make people some money. You have to wait for sponsored tweets but this if you like the product that you are selling you can easily send it out to your Twitter list.

Here is what the site stripe looks like at the top of the page at amazon.com. You will see the new share on Twitter button.

Good for Amazon but “bad” for Twitter users I’d say. There’s already plenty of “advertisement” on Twitter, at least to my liking. But then again, I can easily promote my own blog posts on Twitter almost every time I publish something new. I rarely promote external products though (affiliate links).

As far as I know, we could do direct linking even before this announcement. So what is the big buzz about?

I can understand Amazon’s idea behind this, but I would be hesitant to overly use it as it may hurt your Twitter rep.
