What a burnt Power Supply looks like

The ticket came in that the user heard a pop and a burnt smell coming from the computer. This wasn’t my ticket but it one of the guys in my department.

Inside of the power supply you could see the transistor that blew, and also on the computer case you could see where it burned. You don’t see a lot of them. The computer was dusty so it is probably the likely cause of it burning the power supply. The tech put in a new power supply and cleaned out the computer and it is working fine. The motherboard and other components are working fine so I am glade of that.

Here is what a burnt power supply looks like. The computer was dusty and you should clean out the dust bunnies from your computer….

I’ve experience that the power supply got a rumbling sound through that I’ve change my power supply even if it could still be used.

Wow, kind of scary. I would hate for one of these to actually catch fire and do some serious property damage.
