Autoplay isn’t Working

So the other day I got a call from one of my friends saying that when they put a CD or a Thumb drive the auto play doesn’t work. I downloaded this application from Microsoft called the Autoplay Repair Wizard.

If you want to download it then Click Here.

What the Autoplay repair wizard is it scans the computer devices to find defective AutoPlay settings, and attempts to fix those it finds. I scanned the cdrom drive, and all of his thumb drives and it fixed the Autoplay feature.

I would first check all of the autoplay settings are set to prompt you. To do this you want to right click on the drive that is having autoplay issues and then right click then click on Properties. Then you see a Autoplay tab. In the window is where you make sure it is set to prompt you.

Then I downloaded Autoplay repair wizard and ran that against the drive.

You want to make sure all of the Global checks say OK. If they don’t say ok you then want to repair them. If you do a repair it will ask you to log off and then back on again.

Now select the drive from the list of drives that is not auto playing.

Click Next and ensure the Policy Checks are OK. If it doesn’t say ok it will say problems and then you want to repair them. It will ask you to logoff and then I would run the repair wizard to make sure everything is saying OK. After doing that the thumb drives and CDROM will autoplay.
