How to use a FTP Program

How to use a FTP Program from Greg Ellison on Vimeo.

In this screencast I talked about How to use a FTP program. This is really for beginners who are getting into the blogging world that have their own hosted site, but they don’t know how to transfer files to their webhosting provider. This took me around 10 tries to get the screencast to this point. It is very rough so I need more practice at doing screencasts. I did this on my MAC. Please comment and tell me what you think.

I’m only using CuteFTP for uploading my blog. It is really the best FTP program.
    Thanks for the video!

    Greg,

Up until now, I’ve been using the default File Manager offered by my host (HostGator). Although, after seeing this, I’m definitely considering using an FTP program. I’ve heard endless good stories about them, but was still a bit unsure. You just took away that uncertainty!

Your welcome. It is very easy to install and setup the information to connect to your web host. If you have any troubles I can help you. Greg Ellison

Nice work Greg, in a previous life I used Cute FTP about 90% of my day now I use something simple like Fire FTP the Firefox plugin.

I love doing things via FTP.

Great work Greg – I always wonder if beginners will get scared away when instructions begin with, “Upload the file with your favorite FTP program.” :) This is a great resource to explain it all.

    Greg,

Nice clean video for your 1st one. Been using ftp for years not sure how people live without it. For those that have never tried this. Don’t be scared once you setup the connection it is just like browsing files on your computer.

? What WordPress plugin are you using to ask to subscribe to your e-mail on the comments. Been looking for one.

Good job Greg, I already know how to use an FTP client, I use FileZilla, but I watched your video just so I could leave a comment on what I thought, and like I said you did well. I’m sure it will help a lot of newbies.

With FileZilla you have to be carefull cause it saves all the passwords in a readable txt file so some viruses can quickly scan your username and password info from the filezilla file.
